Kattenbos

Discover Kattenbos: where heathland beauty and rich history come together

Wander through breathtaking nature

Forget the hustle and bustle of everyday life and take a step into Kattenbos. Here, where the heather turns purple in the summer and the pine forests whisper in the wind, you’ll find yourself in another world. Discover the unique beauty of this nature reserve, where you can come face to face with deer, badgers and even the mysterious nightjar.

Experience the adventure

Choose from three marked walks, each with its own charm. The green loop (Butterfly Walk) of 2.2 km is perfect for a relaxing family walk, while the orange (7.7 km) and red (9.4 km) routes take you past the most beautiful spots in Kattenbos. Be surprised by the playful elements and land-art of Will Beckers, or enjoy a view from the stargazing spot.

A journey through time

Kattenbos is also home to a wealth of history. Visit the Leyssensmolen, an impressive watermill from 1797, which is free to visit on the first Sunday and third Saturday of the month between 1pm and 5pm. Or explore the German war cemetery, a silent witness to the Second World War.

Enjoy pure peace and quiet

Take a break in the idyllic surroundings of the Leyssensmolen and enjoy a picnic with a view of the beautiful landscape. Or settle down in a hammock and let yourself be lulled by the sounds of nature.

Eat well

For a delicious snack or drink, you can go to De Vijf Linden or Hof ten Vrede, cozy catering establishments in the heart of Kattenbos.
