Tips from actress Katrien De Ruysscher

Beautiful nature with forests, sandy plains and meadows. A nice city center where it is pleasant to shop at the local trade, and where you can eat and drink something cozy. And a glass museum where you can make your own glass artwork… Lommel has it. Actress Katrien De Ruysscher, known as Judith Van Santen in Thuis, moved with her family from the city to Lommel eight years ago.

“The peace and space are priceless. The forest is my backyard, where I go for a walk and jog. At the same time, we can enjoy culture in Lommel. Or we go to the center to have a look at the studio of the GlazenHuis, a great asset to Lommel, and have something to eat or drink. I like to live here. ”

One of the great assets of the city of Lommel is the beautiful nature.

“The flow meadows of the Grote Watering, a remnant of an irrigation project from the 19th century, are a phenomenon. You can still see at certain times how they irrigate the meadows according to an old method. Impressive ”, says Katrien. Another piece of special nature is “cycling between the trees” in Bosland. “By creating an extra experience in nature, Limburg puts nature more in the spotlight. I think that’s special. It also makes a bike ride extra fun for the children.”

A brisk journey makes you hungry and thirsty.

“For a nice coffee I go to Wolf Espressobar, a cozy coffee bar in the city center where they also serve tasty cake. Another topper is BaZiel, an experience bar with an extensive menu from lunch to healthy smoothies and cocktails. Everything on the menu is just that little bit different, ”says Katrien. It is these unique things that make a visit to Lommel more than worthwhile. “That’s how Nootzaak opened a while ago. An initiative of a dietician who sells artisanally prepared granola’s, bread and nuts. ” Katrien buys gifts, flowers and interior items from Ixora. “Once started as a normal flower shop, but since a thorough renovation, Ixora also sells cool interior items, from beautiful bowls to everything for the Christmas tree.” If she wants to put herself in the new, Katrien likes to shop at Cosi. “A small boutique where they sell brands that are slightly different. They also provide styling tips on their website. Great extra service.”

After all that shopping, it’s time for a break.

“Then we go to De Bourgondiaanse, with Paul and Annie. They used to run the cafeteria at the former swimming pool. After swimming we always went to drink chocolate milk with Paul and Annie. They brought the same friendly and warm atmosphere to the heart of Lommel. ” When it is time for lunch or dinner, Katrien likes to visit Restaurant Diana. “A simple, classic place, but they serve the best mussels. The cold dishes and the stew are also top notch. If the children can choose, we go to La Cantina for Fajitas. ” If it is a bit more, or if you have something to celebrate, the two-star restaurant Cuchara is a must. “Cooking is an art in itself. The aesthetic plates that chef Jan serves are of top level. An experience that I can really enjoy.”
