Cycling through the Sahara (child-friendly route)

Children love bike rides, too. But it’s not always easy to find a route that’s not too long and that has places you can stop on time for a toilet break, to have a drink or grab a quick bite to eat. Fortunately, Tourism Limburg has come up with a great cycling route for children!

This 16 km long bike ride takes you past two fun picnic areas and the Lommel Sahara play forest. Here you can take a break and enjoy the wooded surroundings, while your children play the Zeno Zandloop beetle game or run around in the play forest. Walking just one kilometre further, you’ll come to a vantage point over the white sand plain and the clear blue lake of the Sahara.

Back on the bike route, there’s plenty to keep children entertained. While you cycle in the sunshine along the canal, they can watch the boats passing by. About halfway along the route you arrive at the Blauwe Kei, one of Lommel’s key tourist attractions, where you take a seat at one of the terraces and relax. Your kids will love the ice cream.
